We would like to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves to you. We are a town of a population of 709 according to Census 2000. We are located in the northwest corner of Iowa. We are approximately 60 miles south of Okoboji, 35 miles south of Spencer and 22 miles north of Storm Lake. We are a town governed by a mayor and 5 councilmen. The mayor’s position is a 2 year term and the councilmen are 4 year terms.

We are a  fairly progressive town. We built a new 4200 square foot library in 1999. We furnish water, sewer and garbage to our residents. Alliant Energy furnishes gas and electricity and Iowa Telecom provides local phone service. 99% of our streets are paved and well maintained. We have 1 full time employee who takes care of the water, sewer, and streets. We also are very fortunate to have our own fire department consisting of 25 volunteers.

We have 2 parks in our town one of which has 10 camp sites that have electrical and water hookups and a dump station located near by. The cost for a camper is $12.00 per night and a tent is $8.00.   This is set up on a first come, first serve basis. You can pay at the open shelter house.  This is on an honor system.  We also have a shelter house in Sunset Park which can be rented for your class or family reunions, birthday parties, anniversaries, or other get-togethers. Reservations need to be made through City Hall. Our swimming pool is also located in this park and most seasons we are able to open by Memorial Day and close by Labor Day.

Some of groups we have in town is Albert City Lions Club, Garden Club, Mother of Twins, MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers), American Legion, Threshermans, 4-H group, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts.

We have 3 churches located in town. They are Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Evangelical Free Church, and Evangelical Covenant Church. There is Zion’s Lutheran Church  and St. John's Lutheran church located in the country.

Our businesses in town include a grain elevator, telemarketing company, grocery store, 2 auto repair shops, a restaurant, law office, hardware store, floral shop, bank, laundry mat, farm implement shop, a Swedish specialty shop, convenience/gas station, 2 insurance companies, a small metal factory, and a travel agency. The council and mayor believe in keeping our businesses here and welcome new businesses. Speaking of that, please don’t forget to check out the section on the INDUSTRIAL PARK.
